Yukichi Yamamoto Introduced in IDW's Usagi Yojimbo #20 (Volume 4) by Stan Sakai!
Recently in the world of comic books, artist/writer Stan Sakai has introduced a new character into the world of Usagi Yojimbo... Yukichi Yamamoto! What is the significance of this? Let's get started!
Back in 1984, the world was introduced to an amazing character that would ultimately travel to the universe of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, where he would forever be eternalized. Usagi Yojimbo! He first appeared in an unknown comic series entitled "Albedo Anthropomorphics" in issue #2. He's a deadly samurai rabbit that vanquishes his foes with the use of his trusty katana and karate moves.
The first appearance of Usagi Yojimbo can sell anywhere from $1,000-$20,000 or more, and is a highly desirable book, especially among fans of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
So, that brings us to the newly introduced character, Yukichi Yamamoto. In issue Usagi Yojimbo issue #20, Usagi encounters a young swordmaster who is carrying out the dying wish of his master. Yukichi is on a mission to deliver Itsuki-Sensei's sword to his nephew. Usagi decides to lend a hand realizing that they must pass through the territory of a rival school who is intent on retrieving the sword for themselves.
Comic book collectors would recognize Usagi Yojimbo #20 as being a "key" comic and highly collectible. With the success of Usagi Yojimbo, it is almost guaranteed that the introduction of reoccurring character Yukichi Yamamoto could be a quite significant collector's item.
In 2015, a female Ninja Turtle named Jennika was introduced into the TMNT universe in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles #51 also published by IDW. The book's value is anywhere from $100 and up! In my opinion, Usagi Yojimbo #20 carries the same vibe and could produce a similar effect.
Also available is a retailer's exclusive variant of Usagi Yojimbo #20 which is an homage cover to Albedo Anthropomorphics #2.
